I've been to several bbqs in the past several weeks. My favorite thus far has to be the one I got to volunteer at in the Red Hook section (i.e. "the hood") of BK. Our office sponsors an annual bbq for the kids/locals in that neighborhood and we interns along with ADAs help grill and serve food. I honestly believe several of those children were not getting fed at home because they were coming back for 4+ servings. Anyhoodle, the DA graced us with his presence. Though we briefly chatted, I did not ask to take a pic with him, which was a goal. I'll just have to wait until next time.
Our annual Church picnic was on Saturday. It was probably the most boring Church picnic I've been to in a long, long time. This was probably due to several reasons: a) I did not bring my volleyball b) My sisters were not there c) Most of the cousins were absent and c) A variation of b & c, i.e. NOBODY my age was present. I felt quite awkward because either there were kids who were 5+ younger than me or adults 6+ older than me with their own brood. Moreover, though I spoke with many there, I couldn't help feeling disconnected with them. It seems as though I have very little in common with members of my community. Actually, my detachment with people in my Church and my denomination is not recent - its been waning since the mid-90s. But that's another story for another day.
Time for bed.
