For those of you who don't know what Onam is, it's Kerala's foremost cultural festival, celebrating King Mahabali (Maveli).
Why does Kerala celebrate Mahabali? Legend has it that it was during his reign that Kerala experienced its greatest peace and prosperity. Maveli was known to be an extremely loyal and devoted follower of Lord Vishnu.
Here's a clip of one of the traditional dances performed during Onam, called "Thiruvathira." YouTube is awesome in hooking up Malayalee networks from all over the world. These women are from Munich.
